Merlin our Greenwing 22th jan 2012

After a few months of research on Macaws along with careful thought and consideration we finally decided to go ahead and buy a baby Greenwing Macaw -"Gentle giant of the macaw family" seemed very appealing as a title to describe this beautiful bird of paradise.
Then came the next hurdle -where and who can we trust? Who will offer us all the aftercare if we need it? Will they give us good Advice? Who will sell us a good healthy well weaned bird with a fantastic temperament? - well you know what I mean. Research helps but the practical side is always, well more challenging!
With much trepidation we selected a few breeders in the UK from websites and went to have a look. Nice birds, nice people, but didn't feel right somehow. Anyway to cut a long story short if you are reading this forum page then you are most certainly on the right track.
The minute we met Richard at his home, we felt welcome and comfortable with him. He wasn't intimidating or just in it for the sale. He cares and nurtures his birds with a passion and is very knowledgeable with years of experience behind him, which for us as customers was very reassuring. We discussed everything in fine detail from purchasing and choosing our bird to timescales and size of cage- which he supplied at a great price and delivered to us with the baby Greenwing including natural elm branches he so kindly chopped down for us off his land at 5am that morning in the cold to fit the width of our big cage - BLESS HIM!
When he arrived with baby, cage, elm branches and all the paperwork he began to set up the cage. The least we could do was to offer doorstep bacon sandwiches and coffee that went down a treat.
Richard's level of service is outstanding and we would certainly recommend him to anybody who is serious about buying a parrot. He is truly genuine and we wish him all the best for the future. Even after two months of having Merlin our Greenwing we still keep in touch as he is always interested in how it's all going and how well Merlin is doing. We feel safe that he will always be there for us if we need help and advice

two blue and gold macaws 5th jan 2012

When we decided that we would like to add a parrot (a Blue & Gold Macaw called Shamu) to our family I did a lot of research on the Internet and spoke to several people before I came across Richard. I spoke to him at length, even though he was abroad on holiday the first time I called! He took the time to answer all my questions, I was particularly concerned at how my young children would cope with a bird the size of a Blue Gold.
When we went to see the parrot for the first time, knowing of my concern Richard sat my little 4 year old daughter down and reassuringly introduced her to the parrot first, they got on instantly as did my son, we spent the whole afternoon with Richard, he answered all our questions and gave us plenty of time to get to know Shamu. My brothers' partner (who came with us), was so impressed she actually went back with my brother the following week and decided they too would like a beautiful baby B&G of their own (called Jai).
We had to wait several weeks before the babies were allowed to come home, only once they were fully weaned and Richard was happy that they were ready. All the time we were waiting Richard kept in touch with regular updates.
On the big day, as my brother and his partner live nearby, Richard came down with both the babies together, we asked Richard to supply the cages as well, so he bought both cages with him, put one up at our house, and once Shamu was settled in, he went to my brothers' place and did the same for them.
We have had Shamu & Jai for a couple of months now and it has been an absolute joy, both birds have an excellent temperament and have settled in very well. Shamu and my daughter are now practically inseparable!
I have spoken with Richard on a number of occasions since, and he has always taken the time to answer any questions and provide reassurance and advice when needed.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Richard and Parrots A Plenty to anyone looking for a new pet parrot, and if I ever manage to persuade my wife to let us get a Green Wing Macaw as well, I will defiantly come back to Richard in the future.
My grateful thanks to Richard for a 5 star experience all round!

Kind regards

The long awaited blue and gold macaw

December 14th 2011
I had spoke to a few people before and then I came across Richard,
Richard was very knowledgeable, friendly ,helpful and answered any questions i had
He kept us updated on the progress of the macaw ( rio) sent us pictures and also answered questions i had been asking over the many weeks of waiting , how the cage should be set up , feeding , diet
the day come very quick to recieve him Richard helped sort delivery out which i was very pleased with , rio arrived safe ,I wasnt sure what to expect but then out came a stunning macaw at just 16 weeks old
Richard helped when the bird arrived on what to do and kept me on the right lines , as soon as he went into his cage he gobbling food no problems he was left in his cage for a good 48 hours and thats when the fun came as I was not sure what to expect from rio, gently placed my hand into his cage and on stepped rio, brought him out of his cage and he was like a little baby from then , so cuddly ,well natured ,good with and around the kids as far as handling goes he is brilliant such a pleasure to have and be around falls a sleep on you on a night ,loves contact by any one ,only having him 2 weeks and he rolls on his back for a tickle and normaly falls a sleep
this just goes to show how well hes been brought up
I bought a harness for him and on the dvd it goes through how long it take to train your bird but not rio he sat there and let me put his harness over his head and lifted each of his wings ,and then took it off the same way and not once did he bother as long as he gets hugs and attention he dosnt mind at all

i would definately recommend Richard to any one thinking of getting a macaw as the service you recieve throught out is fantastic and thanks to Richard i have one of the most friendly macaws i have come a cross , i am so pleased and will definately will be using richard from now on.

"I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing us with the most amazing Grey, which far exceeded my expectations.

He is very 'silly tame' to the point where he sleeps on our shoulders in the evenings, he loves being stroked and petted and loves kisses and cuddles. He is brilliant at meeting new people and has not bitten once! He is very healthy and enjoys his food, even hola hoops! He loves playtime and has taken flight around the room. He has met all five of my dogs and is very friendly with the Great Danes! He is very content to play by himself if I am busy and patient at waiting for his turn.

It is very clear that he has been handled loads and given lots of love and attention. I know that this may seem a bit gushy, but I cannot find the words really to say how gorgeous he is!

Thank you soooooooooo very much."

"I purchased a gorgeous baby African Grey from Richard, called Jasmine. Jasmine has a excellent temperament and is fantastic with my two small children. Jasmine is very gentle and very affectionate towards all my family and even people she has never met, her personally is truely amazing and I love having Jasmine apart of my family. Jasmine started to learn words very quickly, such as mummy, thankyou, goodnight and whistles and dances along to Eastenders! Jasmine has never had any health problems, her feathers and beak are immaculate, she really is beautiful african grey.

Richard delivered Jasmine to my home where he gave me all the advice I needed, Richard also gives on going advice if you need it. Richard is definitely trustworthy, honest and reliable. There is nothing Richard doesn't know about parrots and he would be first person I would contact if I needed any help and advice.

I would definately purchase another parrot from Richard, and will  do so in the future, as his birds are immaculate, of brilliant health and their temperaments are outstanding.
I recommend Richard to anyone who is thinking of purchasing a parrot, as they will definatley not be disappointed.

I wouldn't be without Jasmine now so I thankyou Richard, your parrots really are beautiful with outstanding personalities.

"To every one at parrots a plenty I would like to say a big thank you for my Hahns Macaw he's really great and the kids love him he really is cuddly tame. Great service, the bird was delivered to my home, which was a lot less stressful for me and Richard brought a couple of babies with him so I could choose which one we wanted. When I first saw the birds they were only 4 weeks old I was kept well informed about them, as soon as they were weaned and ready Parrots a Plenty gave me a ring and now we have a new member of the family. Also Parrots a Plenty was spotlessly clean and if you like a personal touch and excellent after care I would highly recomend Parrots a Plenty again. Many thanks."

I first phoned Richard the day after I had lost my first Hahns Macaw, I was still very tearful, as I had only had My first Captain Jack for 3 days, from a pet shop!!!. They said he was good a ready to go and that I should carry on feeding him baby food. I blame myself in a lot of ways as I should have done my research, he wasn't eating very well and was very noisy (begging for food). I have always wanted a bird for a long time, so I wanted him straight away when I first saw him, what a lot of hurt and heart ache it caused me.

So I found Richard on the internet the next day, and gave him a ring, and he said they are not ready but you are more than welcome to come and see them.
As they were only little birds I left it a few weeks, and I met the batch of 6 Hahns for the first time (my heart melted, I wanted them all). I really didn't want to leave I could have stayed there all day just looking at them. He said he would give me a ring when he was happy for them to go. In the meantime he kept in contact by email letting me know their progress.

He was good enough to bring the bird to me when he was ready, which was just over an hours drive. He gave me lots of information about 'first steps', "please leave the bird in its cage with the lights on for the first 48hours, to let it acclimatise to the cage and its surrounding". Because of my first experience I made sure I was very strict on myself on not getting the bird out to play etc. I am 8 days in and he is doing so fantastically well. I love him to bits, and he looks so healthy and full of energy and he is getting more used to me everyday, a few nibbles here and there but they are getting less everyday the more he gets to know me. Richard even gave me a starter kit of food, the food he has been eating since he has been weaned. I have carried on with what Richard recommended but Richard did say to experiment with a few more things in fruit and veg, and I have and I think the bird really loves me for it. :)

Richard also said, anything you want to ask, no matter how silly you think it is, please phone. I know Richard has had over 20 years of hand rearing birds, and I have every ounce of trust in him, and I did phone him a couple of time the first day, just like being a first time panicky mum. Richard said please phone me when he starts to eat something, as he is in a bit of shock at the moment, being moved away from the only human he has known and his comrades.  Since then we have had a couple of emails back and forth, me letting him know how captain jack is getting on and how I am enjoying him so much.

Richard is such a genuine guy, and I feel as though I have developed a friend as well. I feel quite confident in phoning him if I ever did have a problem or needed advice. I just want to thank him so much for bringing such tame and beautiful creatures into this world as pets. He does deserve a lot a lot of praise. Richard you are one in a million and I know I said I would not make this testimonial too wet, I mean for it to be very personal and very very honest, you deserve it. I have such a beautiful bird who has become such a instant part of My life and become a part of my family, I could NOT  be without him, he has even accepted six cats. Earlier this week, I told Richard I never got the hang of writing short emails or letter. Sorry, but at the same time, thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul. By the way he didn't pay for this. :) it's all true xx

I found Richard online a few months back after being disappointed by a few scams when we were looking for our new family member. He was very gracious about my being understandably wary at this point and invited us to his home to meet his birds before we decided to buy from him. visiting his birds was an amazing experience as even after the research I'd done for owning a Macaw, I was still a little unsure about how well my young daughter would get on with these massive birds. Richard introduced us firstly to a few of the newer babies, and showing us birds in different stages of growth. We fell in love with one particular bundle of grey fluff and then Richard brought in a bird that was almost ready to go home, to show us what our cute little baby would become. He let us handle him and get a better feel for the size and power we could expect. I noticed also that he took great care to watch how our daughter  interacted with the larger birds, and when she was sat happily chatting away to a Macaw that was "beaking" her fingers , he seemed happier to let us put a deposit down on our little Baby. I get the feeling that if he'd doubted her ability and respect for the Macaw, he would have suggested a smaller bird breed or refused us altogether. Its clear that Richard understands his birds and and also cares greatly for the safety of those interacting with them.

We received regular pictures and updates of our little guy and Richard got DNA sex results for us so that we knew that he was a boy.

Richard gave us a rough estimate on when he would be able to come home, but pointed out that he would not let him come home until he was confident that he would be ready, fully weaned and able to cope with the changes.

Richard has been amazing and even delivered our baby home to us, assisting him into his new home with a familiar face. he gave us some of the food that he'd been weaned onto in order to make the transition less stressful, fewer things to seem different to our little boy. He even took him to the vets for us so that if it turned out to be a stressful experience for him, that he would not associate it with his new "parents". He gave advice on how to let him settle in and stressed repeatedly that we were welcome to contact him at any point if we had any concerns. his love and concern for his birds is truely touching and I would recommend Richard to anyone considdering buying a parrot. My husband has put forward the idea that we may get another Macaw and he would not considder any other breeder.

Our George is a perfect addition to our family, his temperment is lovely, in fact he fell off my lap today because he was enjoying a cuddle so much that he'd practically turned himself upside down trying to show us the best places to "scritch"! We were hoping for a "Hand-tame" bird and are delighted with the true definition of "silly tame" and George seems happy, content and always approaching for a cuddle or play. We've had him here for just under two weeks and it already feels as if he's been a part of our family for much longer. Thank you so much Richard!

Kindest regards,
Donna, David, Ellie and George.

Thanks to Richard!! For our baby blue and gold macaw. We searched high and low for one here in northern Ireland with a good few let downs. Then my girlfriend see an add for macaws and contacted Richard! Well from the start he told us he had some chicks so we sent a depoist. He has done a wonderful job and Vince our macaw is so affectionate and we had only had him 2 days. So thanks again Richard I will def be buying from u in the future.

My husband and I recently met Richard to purchase an African grey, what a wonderful experience. We really liked The way Richard ensured Tia was comfortable with us, while at the same time making sure we were comfortable with her.

Tia is very affectionate, she loves cuddles and gives kisses willingly, and loves meeting visitors, she shares her love equally between the two of us. She is just learning to talk and she is a big part of our life already, can't imagine being without her.

The aftercare from Richard is excellent we would recommend him to anyone
Thanks from Deb, Ian and Tia
